Christian Eriksen responds to Manchester United and Real Madrid transfer speculation

Christian Eriksen has stood by his comments about leaving Tottenham and revealed his regret about not securing a move away in the summer transfer window.

Eriksen stated that he was looking to leave Spurs for a new challenge, but a move never materialised.

United were strongly linked with the Dane playmaker, but turned down the opportunity to sign him towards the end of the transfer window.

MEN Sport understand United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was under the belief Eriksen would rather move to Real Madrid and as result did not accept Tottenham's offer of bidding for him. "

Eriksen is now set to spend the season at Tottenham, but can talk to prospective new clubs in January when he enters the final six months of his contract.

And speaking to Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet, Eriksen admitted he does not regret speaking out about his future.

“No, it wasn’t [wrong to speak out]," he said.

"But it is football and you never know what happens in football. Many things always come into play."

On the speculation linking him with United and Real Madrid, Eriksen accepted there would be interest in his future, even if he may not be happy at remaining in North London.

“I wish I could decide [my future] just like in the Football Manager [game], but unfortunately I can’t," he continued.

“I know a lot of people are interested in where to play. I understand that well. That’s the way it is. For me, it’s not been hard to clear my head. I don’t read much of what is written.

“And now I have been involved for many years, where there have been many rumours every year. But it’s clear that it’s been a little more violent this year because my contract is about to expire.”
