Christian Eriksen makes Man City Champions League admission ahead of final vs Liverpool FC

Christian Eriksen says Tottenham are relieved not to be playing Manchester City in the Champions League final.

Eriksen helped his Spurs side to the showpiece event in Madrid after edging past City on away goals at the quarter-final stage.

After winning 1-0 at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs were on the wrong end of a 4-3 defeat at the Etihad but progressed on away goals in dramatic fashion.

City would have gone through themselves had it not been for a late Raheem Sterling goal disallowed for offside after Eriksen had given the ball away.

But there was no luck involved in the semi-finals as Spurs produced a stirring comeback to beat Ajax in Amsterdam.

As Spurs prepare to face Liverpool in the final, Eriksen dismissed the idea that playing English opposition gave his side an advantage - but conceded that he is pleased Spurs are not playing City.

Eriksen told BBC Sport: "It's a final so it doesn't really matter who you play.

"But of course, playing against Liverpool we've played them a lot in the last few years and of course every year you do it.

"I’m just happy it wasn’t City, I think we’ve played City enough this year!"

City played Spurs three times in 11 days in April, winning twice, to go with the 1-0 win at Wembley in October.
