Christian Eriksen Inter transfer to be completed imminently, says club chief

Inter Milan chief executive Giuseppe Marotta is confident that the club's pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur's Christian Eriksen will be wrapped up soon.

The Dane was left out of the squad for Spurs' FA Cup fourth round tie at Southampton on Saturday, although he was in attendance at St Mary's for the game.

Spurs and Inter have been locked in negotiations for the attacking midfielder for some time, but a breakthrough was reached ahead of the weekend, with Eriksen now expected to travel to Milan to finalise his switch to Serie A early next week.

Eriksen has long been holding out for a departure from Tottenham, and is now set to get his wish having been at the club since 2013.

"Eriksen? We are not hiding, we have been negotiating with Tottenham for some time,” Marotta told DAZN , via Goal.com, after Inter's 1-1 draw with Cagliari in Serie A on Sunday.

“I am optimistic, I hope to conclude as quickly as possible. I am confident that it can be resolved in the next few days."

Marotta stopped short of claiming that Eriksen's arrival would lead to the departure of Uruguayan midfielder Matias Vecino, who has been linked with moves to Premier League pair Manchester United and Everton.

“A good player is arriving, then the dynamics of the transfer window are still being evaluated in-house," continued the Inter chief.

"We’ll always come to the conclusion made by the whole team and every element of the club."

Inter took the lead in the first half of the San Siro contest against Cagliari when forward Lautaro Martinez headed home a cross from debutant Ashley Young.

However a late equaliser from Radja Nainggolan forced Antonio Conte's side to settle for a point.
