Christian Eriksen gives insight into Spurs' second half approach in 'ridiculous game' vs Ajax

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen has revealed how his side approached the second-half of their Champions League semi-final second-leg with Ajax.

The Lilywhites entered the interval 3-0 down on aggregate and facing a heartbreaking exit from the Champions League, but fought back remarkably in the final 45 minutes, sealing their spot in the final courtesy of a Lucas Moura hat-trick.

That has set up a date with Liverpool in Madrid on June 1st, where Spurs will aim to win Europe’s most prestigious prize for the first time in their history.

However, Eriksen admitted that the first-half display in Amsterdam was not good enough but added that there was no other approach to the second period other than fighting back with all their might.

“It was a ridiculous game. We were really far down and we tried to fight back and then at the end we were just lucky,” he told BT Sport.

“I feel sorry for Ajax. They played a very good game against us. Over the two games they played better football than us. Today we mostly created more chances but the football they played better.

“We were just lucky we scored. It's a relief because we've been fighting for this and it's a dream to be in a Champions League final.

“We weren't able to look ourselves in the mirror afterwards if we went down 3-0 or 4-0 today. We had to fight back. There was no other option.

Spurs fans go wild for what Gary Neville said ahead of Champions League final against Liverpool

“We had to score early to get some momentum, to put the pressure on them. In the end, we were lucky the ball fell in the right direction and Lucas had a wonderful game with three goals.”
