Christian Eriksen says he is confident Brentford have what it takes to avoid relegation this season after making his Premier League return on Saturday.

The Dane has hailed the "wonderful" moment he returned to professional football, eight months after suffering a cardiac arrest on the pitch at Euro 2020.

Eriksen made his return to the Premier League from the bench in the 52nd minute during Saturday's 2-0 home defeat against Newcastle.

Despite the excitement around his return, the focus is firmly on safety for Thomas Frank and his side, with the loss to fellow relegation battlers Newcastle making it eight League games without a win.

"I think everyone knows that every game is very important," said Eriksen. "Everyone is really focused on staying up, nobody is naive. Everyone is focusing on doing our job and trying to stay up.

"The confidence is there from everyone to stay up. I want to get my feeling and touch back then help Brentford stay up in the Premier League."

Regardless of the result, it was a special day for Eriksen. As well as his family, parents and in-laws, doctors who had helped his recovery and return to fitness over the past eight months were also in attendance at the Brentford Community Stadium.

"Take away the result and I am one happy man," said Eriksen. "To have been through what I have been through with my family to be back here is a wonderful feeling and I am just happy it has happened really.

"It has been very special, since day one they have taken great care of me and it has been a pleasure to come in."
