Christian Eriksen explains why his contract situation at Tottenham Hotspur is 'unnatural'

Christian Eriksen has spoken out about his Tottenham Hotspur contract situation and described it as 'unnatural'.

The Denmark international has just over 12 months left on his current deal, so this summer could potentially be Spurs' last chance to command a fee for the midfielder.

Eriksen has been closely linked to a transfer to Real Madrid in recent months and his future may be dependent on whether Zinedine Zidane is interested in making the signing after returning to the Spanish capital, if not the 27-year-old may be more inclined to seal a new deal.

Spurs' star is unconcerned about the rumours himself however.

Christian Eriksen explains why Spurs are in no danger of missing out on a top-four spot just yet

The playmaker told B.T: "The Premier League clubs are starting very early to get players to sign new contracts. Therefore, my situation is unnatural. Two years is still a long time when you think of a football career, but in England it is normal to write a five-six-year agreement. That's why my situation is different.

"The speculation about my future does not affect me. I don't care about that completely. It's newspaper news. It has been running ever since, I was 14 years old and was in trial at Chelsea. There are newspapers that write it.

It's not the first time that Eriksen has given a blunt response when questioned about his future. Earlier in the international break he did not appear to react kindly to journalists asking about potential switches to Juventus and Los Blancos.

"I don't want to talk about it. You write everything anyway, so there is no need to talk about it. I really just want to focus on the national team, when I am here," he is quoted as saying in Ekstra Bladet.
