Christian Eriksen drops big transfer hint amid Manchester United and Real Madrid transfer links

Christian Eriksen has admitted he 'might want to try something new' amid speculation that he could leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer, with Manchester United and others linked.

The Spurs playmaker is about to enter the final year of his contract and is considering his future after losing the Champions League final to Liverpool.

United and Real Madrid are among the clubs who have been touted for a swoop , though Eriksen said he may sign a contract extension at White Hart Lane.

"I feel that I am a place in my career where I might want to try something new," the 27-year-old told Ekstrabladet.

"I have the wildest and deepest respect for everything that has happened in Tottenham, nor will it be negative. But I have also said that I would like to try something new."

Eriksen added that he wants 'clarification' on his future from Tottenham decision-makers Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy.

"I hope there will be a clarification during the summer," he said.

"That's the plan. In football you do not know when a clarification comes. It can happen anytime. Everyone wants it best if it happens as soon as possible, but in football takes things time.

"It is hard. It depends on the possibilities. If nothing pops up that is more exciting, why not stay in Tottenham? If I then sign a new contract, depends on the conditions.

"It all depends on Daniel Levy and there has to be another club too. Or I will sit down myself at the table and negotiate a new contract. You can’t set a date yourself. There aren’t many boxes that Tottenham don’t tick so if I have to move away, it would have to be a step up.”

Although United's main playmaker Paul Pogba has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, MEN Sport understands the Reds are not willing to sell the Frenchman or seek major changes to their midfield. They do, however, hold an interest in James Maddison and Adrien Rabiot, among others.
