Christian Eriksen collapse latest as team doctor reveals what happened on the pitch

Denmark's team doctor has given an insight into the traumatic events that followed Christian Eriksen's collapse during Denmark v Finland on Saturday.

The 29-year-old midfielder fell to the ground just before half time in the Euro 2020 match and was given CPR before being stretchered from the field awake and responsive. On Sunday morning, the Danish FA issued a condition update and confirmed Eriksen had been in touch with team-mates.

Doctor Morten Boesen is quoted by Danish newspaper B.T. as saying "we felt the pulse, but pretty quickly the picture changed", bringing the seriousness of the situation into sharp focus.

"We were called on the pitch when Christian fell over," Boesen is quoted as saying by B.T.

"I did not get to see it, but it soon became clear that he had fallen over. When we got there, he was lying on his side and was breathing.

"We felt the pulse, but pretty quickly the picture changed, and then we started life-saving heart treatment.

"There was fantastic help from the stadium doctor and the rest of the emergency services, and with that collaboration we got what we needed.

"We got Christian back, who spoke to me before he was taken to the hospital."

The doctor also issued a further update on Sunday in a press conference, where he said Eriksen "was gone" but was revived after one defibrillator use. You can read his full comments here.

After leaving the field, Eriksen was taken to a Copenhagen hospital for further examination.

On Saturday evening, he was described as being awake and stable.

The match between Finland and Denmark was suspended for around 90 minutes before restarting.

UEFA say the game continued at the request of the players, who had reportedly spoken to Eriksen via video call from his hospital bed.

However, clearly affected by the events, Denmark lost the game 1-0.
