Christian Eriksen asked cheeky question about whether he's looking forward to playing in Madrid

One Danish journalist was quick to ask Christian Eriksen, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, a cheeky question about playing in the Spanish capital.

Spurs will play in Madrid on June 1 at the Champions League final against Liverpool and when the media from Eriksen's homeland spoke to him after the dramatic semi-final triumph at Ajax, they waited until the final question to make the connection to all those transfer rumours.

He was asked: "So you will be playing in Madrid after all?"

Eriksen straight batted the question though with the answer: "It is what we are here for. To play football."

The Dane spoke honestly about the semi-final in the rest of the interview published in Ekstra Bladet.

"It's weird. We had written it mentally at 2-0, and I think that many newspapers too, because it was really far off to score three times," he said.

"It's crazy. It's something we've dreamed of with everything we've been through throughout the Champions League season. We have come from behind all the way. First in the group, where we were far behind, and then we finally ended it against City with thanks to VAR.

"Now we were behind with two, and still go on with three goals. Then we cannot say anything other than that we have been bloody lucky and we take that to the final."

Eriksen revealed the moment that he felt the game had to slipped away from Spurs.

"It's hard to explain. When Jan headed against the bar, I thought 'it is now slipping'. But then the ball ends up at Lucas' feet and it was the right player because he had already scored two.

"It was perfect timing. A pure pleasure, but sorry for Ajax. It has to be hard to be ahead and could go on with a draw. It hurts them, but it was great for us."

The Dane is looking forward to next month's final against Jurgen Klopp's men and believes Spurs must prepare themselves for one last battle.

"It's something we all are looking forward to. Everyone has seen a final, and now we must also play in it, we ourselves must stand in the stadium ready for the fight," he said.

"You usually read about other teams, but now the focus is on us. That's what you dream of as a football player - getting into a Champions League final - and we're there."
