Tottenham legend Erik Thorstvedt has stated that Christian Eriksen's Spurs career will end in a "sour way" as he enters the final few months of his contract.
The Danish international will be free to leave Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer as it appears extremely unlikely that he will sign new terms in north London.
The club could potentially cash in on the player once the January transfer window reopens, yet the prospect of that happening looks remote given foreign clubs can speak to him about a pre-contract agreement for the 2020/21 season at the turn of the year.
Thorstvedt believes that the highly-rated midfielder will walk away on a free transfer and he has claimed it is a "disaster" for Mauricio Pochettino's side.
"There has been a lot of talk that it was good that they got to keep Eriksen - yeah right," he told Norwegian online newspaper Nettavisen .
"It is a disaster for Tottenham to be left with the beard in the mailbox as they now do. A player with that value they must sell if he does not want to be in the club.
"He might have hoped that one of the big clubs in Spain would pick him up, but that didn't happen.
"I think Tottenham had an offer for Eriksen, but he refused to go to the clubs that would bid on him and which Tottenham would sell to.

Asked if potential moves to the likes of Barcelona or Real Madrid could happen given previous links, the Norwegian believes it's not exactly clear if the Spanish giants will make a move for Eriksen.
"I think so, but it's not obvious," he added. "He has had a safe and good environment for a long time with a lot of confidence.
"How does he react in a new competitive situation? It is hard to say. But I think Christian Eriksen is good. What he does now is not representative of his level.
"What has been a fantastic Tottenham chapter for Christian Eriksen ends in a sour way. I don't think there will be any doubt about that."
