Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen send message ahead of Manchester City vs Tottenham

Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen have both taken to social media to send messages ahead of Tottenham's Carabao Cup final clash against Manchester City.

After a tumultuous week in football that has seen Spurs on the end of huge criticism following their role in the European Super League debacle and the shock sacking of Jose Mourinho as manager after just 18 months in charge, Ryan Mason will lead the club into a cup final with hopes of defeating the standout team in the Premier League this season.

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City side lead Manchester United by 11 points in the table having played a game more, and look certain to be lifting the league title this year.

Mason will be in charge until the end of the current season as Spurs look for Mourinho's long-term replacement, and life under the interim head-coach got under way with a 2-1 comeback win against Southampton on Wednesday.

Spurs fans will be hoping the positive mood from that victory carries over into today's match, and former Tottenham players have come out on social media to send a message ahead of the game.

Vertonghen, who left the club last summer on a free transfer to join Benfica, said it was a "big day", tagging the official Spurs account on Twitter. His former teammate Eriksen added his own spin on the centre-back's tweet.

The duo spent a combined 15 years in North London with Spurs before leaving in 2020.

They will be hoping Harry Kane is back and fully ready for the clash against Guardiola's team after missing the win over Southampton with an ankle problem.

Kane has been included in the squad, but it remains to be seen whether he will be fit enough to start the match at Wembley Stadium.
