Christian Doidge Wales dream could come true as Ryan Giggs offers Hibs striker hope ahead of March friendlies

Christian Doidge’s dream of representing Wales could be about to come true after national boss Ryan Giggs admitted the Hibs striker is on his radar.

The former Forest Green Rovers hit man has been in red hot form for the Hibees, netting 17 times in all competitions since the start of November after initially struggling for goals following his £350,000 move in the summer.

Doidge admitted earlier this month that pulling on the red shirt of his country would be a dream come true, especially under his hero Giggs, whose name he had on the back of his Manchester United shirt as a youngster.

And it seems Giggs is an admirer of the 27-year-old goalscorer, admitting the Carmarthen-born man was in his thoughts for Wales’ friendlies against Austria and the United States at the end of next month.

If Doidge gets the call and plays, he could force himself into the reckoning for the Dragons squad for the Euro 2020 finals this summer.

Giggs told clwbpeldroed.org : “He’s someone who I looked at actually 18 months ago.

“I looked at him, I went to watch him at Bolton and he came on with ten minutes to go which has been the case a lot of times.

“He’s someone who, obviously, is scoring goals. He was at Forest Green, Bolton and started in the Welsh Leagues.

“When you have a goalscorer, it doesn’t matter what level, they know where the back of the net is.

“He’s someone who we’re looking at closely over the next few weeks, obviously with the games coming up.”

Doidge could add to his impressive tally when Jack Ross ’ side take on Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the quarter-finals of the William Hill Scottish Cup at Easter Road on Friday night.
