Christian Doidge in defiant Hibs message as injured striker starts on road to recovery

Christian Doidge says he's "gutted" to be writing off a significant chunk of the season with injury - but he's already looking forward to getting back onto the pitch.

The Hibs hitman picked up an Achilles problem in training ahead of their second leg with Santa Coloma and it quickly emerged that it was serious.

Jack Ross confirmed after their win over Kilmarnock on Sunday that he will be out for at least 12 weeks.

“It’s likely to be three of four months before he even returns to training so it’s a serious blow for us," said Ross.

“He’s been terrific for us and I’m so disappointed for him."

But Doidge is wasting no time feeling sorry for himself as he sent out a tweet on Monday thanking fans for their messages of support.

"Thanks for all the messages of support this week," he said.

"Beyond gutted to be missing out on a big part of the season but already looking ahead to coming back."

It's likely Doidge won't be in training again until after Christmas, and he will undoubtedly be desperate to play some part in the Edinburgh derby with Hearts on January 2.

But given the length of the absence, it may be after the winter break before he is back on the pitch.
