Christian Doidge fitness boost for Hibs as striker returns to training ahead of Rangers semi-final showdown

Hibs will hope to have Christian Doidge to call upon for their cup meeting with Rangers later this month.

After the international break, the Hibees head for Hampden to contest a Premier Sports Cup semi-final meeting with the Light Blues.

And Jack Ross will be hoping he can include Welsh hitman Doidge in his matchday squad for the showdown at the national stadium next Sunday.

The 29-year-old has been out with an Achilles injury but is back in training for the Easter Road men.

He hasn't kicked a ball in anger since rupturing his Achilles in the lead up to a Uefa Europa Conference League clash against Riejka back in August.

However, if fit enough, could be an option for the Leith side, even if just off the bench against the Premiership champions.

There was a concern he could be out until December, so the news will come as a huge boost to gaffer Ross with his team on a poor run of form and seeing their schedule disrupted by Covid issues.

The Hibees are on a four-game losing streak and will go almost a month without playing due to the repeated postponement of their meeting with Ross County.

They'll be up against it, but, with a man in Doidge who scored 13 goals last season, will be more optimistic of earning a result and a place in the December 19 final.
