Chrissy Teigen replaced by Gigi Hadid in Netflix's Never Have I Ever

Gigi Hadid has stepped in to replace Chrissy Teigen in the new season of Netflix ’s Never Have I Ever.

The Victoria’s Secret model and new mum makes a surprise guest appearance in the teen rom-com, playing the inner monologue of the high school’s hot jock, Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet).

Throughout season one, Paxton finds himself falling for the hapless but loveable Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) - only to wind up in a fight for her affections with competitive nerd, Ben (Jaren Lewison).

In season two’s third episode, ‘Never Have I Ever ...opened a textbook’, Paxton’s inner voice shows him making some decisions on his life and love - and naturally they needed a supermodel voice for the teen.

Chrissy Teigen was initially signed up to take on the role, but last month she pulled out at last minute following an online bullying scandal.

Teigen, 35, came under fire after Courtney Stodden called her out for trolling her back when she was just 16 years old and married to a then 51-year-old Doug Hutchison.

The vicious messages included comments for Stodden to “take a dirt nap” and “go to sleep forever”.

After that, several other comments aimed at celebrities - including Lindsay Lohan - made by Teigen were unearthed.

In May, Teigen apologised and acknowledged the messages sent to Stodden and Lohan were real, tweeting: "I'm mortified and sad at who I used to be.

"I was an insecure, attention seeking troll. I am ashamed and completely embarrassed at my behaviour."

She later apologised in a lengthier statement, before taking time away from social media.

Returning to Instagram today, Teigen said she felt ‘depressed and lost’ after becoming part of ‘the cancel club’ and wanted to get her life back on track.

“I don’t really know what to say here. Just feels so weird to pretend nothing happened in this online world but feel like utter s**t in real life,” she wrote next to a picture of her sprawled out on her sofa.

"Going outside sucks and doesn’t feel right, being at home alone with my mind makes my depressed head race. But I do know that however I’m handling this now isn’t the right answer.

"I feel lost and need to find my place again. I need to snap out of this, I desperately want to communicate with you guys instead of pretending everything is okay.

“I’m not used to any other way.”

The star, who is married to John Legend, later added: “Only a few understand it and it’s impossible to know until you’re in it.

"And it’s hard to talk about it in that sense because obviously you sound whiney when you’ve clearly done something wrong. It just sucks. There is no winning. But there never is here anyhow."

“I don’t even know if it’s good to say any of this because it’s going to get brutally picked apart but I dunno. I can’t do this silent s**t anymore,” she added.

"If you or someone you know has also been cancelled, please let me know if there is a cancel club reunion because I could use some time off my couch. Thank you and goodbye I love you."

Never Have I Ever season 2 is available now on Netflix.
