Chrissy Teigen branded 'tone-deaf' for confessing she accidentally ordered £9.5k wine

Chrissy Teigen has been branded "tone-deaf" for admitting she once accidentally ordered a £9,500 bottle of wine during a dinner with her husband John Legend.

The model, 35, made the confession on Twitter, revealing the pair asked a waiter to recommend a wine to go with their meal, and were stunned when the bill showed the bottle cost them $13,000 (£9,500).

In a post on the social media site, she wrote: "What’s the most expensive thing you’ve eaten that you thought sucked?...

"One time John and I were at a restaurant and the waiter recommended a nice Cabernet.

"We got the bill and it was 13,000 dollars. How do you casually recommend that wine. We didn't even finish it and it had been cleared!!!"

Many fans were taken aback by her confession, with some branding her "tone-deaf" for sharing the story at a time when so many people are suffering financially.

One tweeted: "Did you recover? Meanwhile people are out here drowning in debt, losing their homes, and can’t afford to see a doctor."

Another wrote: "Had 90% of us 'accidentally' ordered a $13,000 wine, we'd be in jail.

"Not saying rich people's experiences can't be different, but this is really tone deaf. Especially, given how many are suffering..."

A third added: "A little over $10k keeps the roof over my head for a full year... a YEAR."

While another wrote: "People are not going to relate to this," to which Chrissy replied: "Didn't say it was and doesn't have to be. Should I be tiptoeing."

The model later added: "Hey, not everything I say on my twitter is going to be relatable to you because it is my life and my twitter and my stories.

"I see your tweets, I get your jokes, you are so funny, yes, you really nailed me."

However, many fans did stand up for Chrissy and insisted she's just sharing her own experiences.

One wrote: "Yikes, why all the hate, so she’s in a bigger bracket - not shocking - her accidentally agreeing to a 13k bottle is like me agreeing to a 200 bottle and being shocked...

"As others have said it’s all relative - she's not bragging just chatting - geesh you’re class shaming."

Another tweeted: "Never thought I’ll be defending Chrissy Teigen on Twitter. But why are people complaining she spent $13k of her own money on wine?!

"You don’t have to relate. Many people in Africa and South Asia can’t relate to you spending $1000 on an iPhone..

"Your luxury is someone else's basic and your basic is some else's luxury. That's just the way it is."
