Chrissy Teigen and John Legend put a new spin on an outdated trend with their bold feature wall – interior designers love the modern look

The early 2000s are back in a big way, and that includes interior design trends of the period. Chrissy Teigen and John Legend's home in Beverly Hills is widely considered to be a mid-century modern masterpiece. Their contemporary home has the best of everything trendy for this year, and that means incorporating Y2K trends. This is most evidenced by the modern feature wall in the couple's dining room.

Chrissy and John's wall decor is a porcelain sculpture by Valeria Nascimento. The floral installation features dozens of tiny floral blossoms scattered artfully across the wall. The look gives new life to the dated feature wall trend, according to designers.

Floss Kelly, interior designer and co-founder of TileCloud states of John and Chrissy's accent wall: 'The couple has modernized the feature wall concept by incorporating a free-standing wall with rounded corners, painted in warm white matte. This approach creates a sense of openness and fluidity, contrasting with the traditional concept of feature walls being a flat, bold statement. The addition of delicate, pastel pink blossoms adds a whimsical, yet sophisticated touch, showcasing how personal elements can transform a space into something uniquely modern and reflective of the homeowner's personality.'

She continues, 'Using a pinkish 3-D element on white matte walls, as seen in their dining room, offers a soft yet eye-catching feature. It brings warmth and depth to the space, breaking the monotony of white walls without overwhelming the room's aesthetic. This color combo is particularly effective in creating a welcoming and calming atmosphere, ideal for spaces where the whole family comes together to mingle or relax.'

Aside from the color scheme, the style of the artwork fits well with the mid-century decor and personal style of its owners. Jennifer Ebert, color expert and digital editor at Homes & Gardens says, 'When it comes to choosing art for your home, the focus should be on pieces that you love and mesh with your existing interior design. As evidenced by John and Chrissy's all-pink outfits, this wall art fits perfectly with one of their favorite color schemes.'

Furthermore, experts say that this look will become a huge interior design trend in 2024. Floss adds: 'Looking ahead, I anticipate a growing trend towards more personalized feature walls, much like what we see in Chrissy and John's home. This trend aligns with a broader movement in interior design where homeowners are seeking unique ways to infuse their spaces with individuality and character. It's not just about following a style; it's about creating a narrative within the home. This approach to feature walls, where personal tastes are as integral as the design itself, is what makes them so appealing and likely to become more prevalent.'
