Looks like Selling Sunset season nine drama is spilling off-screen, and this time, it’s not about commission splits or who got the better listing. Chrishell Stause and Chelsea Lazkani have both spoken out about what really went down behind the glossy Netflix edit — and it’s raising some serious questions about how the show handles race and power dynamics.
It all started when Chelsea opened up on a podcast about being the only Black woman in the Selling Sunset cast.

“I struggle so much because I’m trying to be my authentic self, and there were undertones of like, ‘Chelsea’s aggressive’ or ‘Chelsea’s a bully’ or ‘Chelsea’s mean’,” she told Carlos King. “Never in my life up until coming on reality TV have I ever heard that… It makes me so sad, especially from sometimes the girls. You’ve never really given me a chance.”
Chelsea pointed out that similar behaviour from other cast members was often brushed off as “just giving their opinion”. King agreed with the double standards, noting that Chelsea was treated more harshly in the edit than her lighter-skinned cast mate Amanza Smith, who is of Nigerian and white heritage.
A video of the conversation shared on social media struck a chord, but things really lit up when Chrishell Stause. The longtime star, who recently confirmed she’s officially leaving Selling Sunset, dropped a bombshell in the comments:
“This is heartbreaking. And WHY you shouldn’t have an all white production company with an exec producer credit and editing power to Jason [Oppenheim, Chrishell’s ex and co-owner of The Oppenheim Group] who has power to say, if you don’t take that out, there is no show.”

Yep — Chrishell appeared to confirm the long-held rumour that Jason holds production and editing sway over the series.
Fans had long speculated about Jason’s behind-the-scenes influence, but Chrishell’s comment essentially pulled back the curtain.

Her statement echoed what fans like TikToker Dami Zain have been saying for months. In one of her detailed breakdowns, Dami pointed out that Chelsea may have once called out microaggressions on-camera. The scene Dami was referencing was the big dinner party storm off when Jason yelled at production to “turn the cameras off” after Mary and Chelsea had a confrontation.
Chelsea told Jason, “You don’t get to pick when the cameras go off. You didn’t care when we were getting your fucking content.”
Dami highlighted that Jason’s alleged production control may have shaped how certain cast dynamics appeared on-screen — especially when it came to his long-running closeness with Mary Fitzgerald, who’s often been framed as central to Selling Sunset’s emotional plotlines. “I think Jason and the producers have committed a few faux pas in this season,” Dami said.
“This was an opportunity for them to tackle allegations of micro-aggression and racism head-on, but instead, they chose to sweep it under the carpet. And I’m really disappointed by that because as a viewer and as a Black woman who’s been in the corporate space, I can see the micro-aggressions and I can see the racism myself.”
One fan commented under the post: “And yet the reunion addressed none of this and Mary wasn’t held accountable or challenged once!! Crying at the SIGHT of Chelsea’s name ??? Not mentioned once and yet the whole reunion was about you answering to every little thing you said and did. Give us a Chelsea & Chrishell spinoff sis.”

Whether that spinoff ever happens is another story — but it’s clear fans are tired of seeing uncomfortable conversations sidestepped.
