Chrishell Stause almost quit Selling Sunset amid 'humiliating' divorce from Justin Hartley

Chrishell Stause was close to quitting Selling Sunset amid her very public divorce from actor Justin Hartley.

The 40-year-old reality star and real estate agent opened up about the 'humiliating' experience she went through, which made her think twice about her decision to continue on the Netflix show.

Their split aired during series three of the show, with Chrishell saying she was 'blindsided' when Justin text her to say he had filed for divorce.

The divorce was the most public and humiliating thing you could ever go through," she said on the Dear Media podcast Lipstick on the Rim.

Chrishell continued: "I still had to film a reality show, it was carry on with that or quit and I wanted this new career so I stayed in the end.

"I pushed through and I just had to be open and I think that is better than pretending everything is ok."

The star went on to reveal she turned to therapy during the difficult time.

She added: "Therapy is an amazing tool. I didn't have much control over how it went down so I had to look after myself."

Chrishell wrote a book titled Under Construction: Because Living My Best Life Took a Little Work, which she started at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

By the end, she revealed she had changed as a person.

The star added: "I was going through a lot of heavy things, we were locked down so there wasn't anything to do. By the end of the book I was in such a better head space. You should always be working on yourself. I get a lot of people connect to what I write about and talk about."

Chrishell also went on to explain during filming for Selling Sunset she was alluded to set up storylines and meetings.

She said: "The show has been such a blessing but you are put in difficult situations and that you would never normally put yourself in but I have learnt to deal with it because of all the good things the show has brought to me.

"It's got pros and cons but there are more pros. They are not necessarily the people or conversations I would be having but yeah."

She concluded: "It was hard promoting the show when people don't get on, but it looks like things are going in the right direction."

The recently-released series five follows Chrishell's new relationship with Jason Oppenheim, who she eventually splits up with due to him not wanting children.

However the reality star is now completely single.

She said on the podcast: "I am keeping an open mind. It is important when you're happy in yourself and I'm not thinking about it too much. I have entered into a new era of my life now where I am so content.

"The show has made it harder to date, I show up to a date and the person across the table knows all these things about me as my life has all been documented. Or it may be that people have seen the show and think 'oh I know who you would be good for."
