Newcastle United striker Chris Wood felt the Magpies passed their trial by TV test against Tranmere Rovers last night.
The New Zealand striker had a quiet first half but burst into life after the break with a wonderful flicked header that ended up being the winner. Wood has waited patiently for his chance but did himself no harm with his third competitive goal for the club since his £25million move from Burnley.
Speaking after the win on the Wirral, Wood said: "We knew it was going to be a tough game. On a Wednesday night coming here live on TV was always going to be tough.

"The home crowd gave them energy. We had to work our way round to get the win and they caused us a lot of problems."
Wood was thankful to Kieran Trippier who came off the bench to set up two goals at Prenton Park. First he drifted in a cross for Jamaal Lascelles before setting up the ex-Leeds star in the second half.
Wood said: "We saw it at the weekend. We know his quality and that’s why he's in our side. He's one of the best deliverers of the ball in the league. "We have to make sure we get in there and take advantage of it."
