Chris Wilder to Celtic boost with Neil Lennon in the mix to be Sheffield United successor

Chris Wilder is the bookies' favourite to be named the next Celtic manager as he nears an exit from Sheffield United.

The Blades boss is set to leave Bramall Lane as his side sit at the bottom of the Premier League, 13 points from safety with ten games left.

And he's been tipped to find a new club immediately as Betfair named him as the odds-on favourite to take the reins at Parkhead as Celtic look for a new gaffer.

Neil Lennon, who left the Hoops last month, is also in the mix to be Wilder's successor with the Northern Irishman third favourite behind former Hibs boss Paul Heckingbottom and Frank Lampard.

Former Celtic striker Tony Cascarino feels Wilder would be a great fit for the Hoops and could 'regenerate' the club.

Speaking on the Jim White Show, he said: “I wouldn’t be surprised if a Premier League club came in for him, I really wouldn’t.

“Celtic is a typical club that Chris Wilder could regenerate. That atmosphere, that battling - he builds football clubs and that’s what he’s done over the years.”
