Chris Wilder tipped for Celtic success as Sheffield United hero says 'big ideas' would revitalise Parkhead club

Sheffield United striker David McGoldrick reckons Chris Wilder is destined for big things after leaving the Yorkshire club - and has backed him to take the reins at Celtic.

Wilder has emerged as one of the bookies' favourites to replace Neil Lennon on a permanent basis after he left the Blades earlier this month.

They may have been bottom of the Premier League at the time of his departure but Wilder's stock remains high after he took them from League One to the top flight and nearly took them into Europe in their first season back.

McGoldrick was a big part of that journey and was named player of the year when they were promoted from the Championship in 2018/19.

And the Ireland international is sure Wilder has what it takes to hit the ground running at Celtic if he is the man chosen.

Wilder is currently third favourite with most bookmakers, behind John Kennedy and Man City coach Enzo Maresca.

“I’m sure he’ll get a big job somewhere," McGoldrick said on talkSPORT.

“Celtic need someone to go in there with big ideas, Wilder will go in there with his own ideas.

“He would change that club, he’d get the boys playing for them.”
