Chris Wilder really frustrated with Sheffield United after Liverpool win

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder was unable to hide his frustration after Liverpool's 1-0 win at Bramall Lane on Saturday afternoon.

The European champions extended their perfect start to the Premier League season thanks to a fortuitous goal from Gini Wijnaldum on 70 minutes.

The Reds midfielder's volley appeared to be heading for a routine save from Blades goalkeeper Dean Henderson before the on-loan shot-stopper allowed the ball the squirm through his grasp.

It gave the visitors a lead their performance perhaps didn't deserve on an afternoon that really tested the Premier League leaders. Wilder said he had no time to put his arm around the young keeper following the mistake and aired his very evident disappointment after the game.

He said: "There isn't a big enough word to describe my frustration. I don't want to use the words 'missed opportunity' but it so frustrating that we didn't get anything Liverpool today.

"They were not at their best today, but it was the team who started the Champions League final minus the goalkeeper (Alisson Becker). We had the right attitude and the fans, I don't want to say they intimidated Liverpool, because they are certainly used to that, but they gave us energy.

"But when these unbelievable sides like Liverpool have off-days then we have to capitalise. We saw Norwich did it three weeks against Manchester City with three goals from three shots on target.

"If we had shown more quality at both ends of the pitch, we would be sitting here talking about not only hosting the European champions, but beating the European champions, as well.

"I'm not right bothered about how people feel, this is a real tough sport, elite-level football. [Henderson] knows what we think about him here, how much we respect him and rate him but he has to find a way himself to get over disappointment. I am not going to put my arm around him and rub his head.

"It amazes me when these pundits say not to criticise after a mistake, This game is being beamed around the world, worldwide. There is no hiding place and he has to get on with it. He will be gutted, but he has to move on from his mistakes.

"All the shirt swapping talk, that can happen after the game, but it was Sheffield United v Liverpool, it's a Premier League fixture. We have had a glorious, golden opportunity to put a marker down that we are in this division to compete and we have let it slip through our hands."
