Chris Wilder issues update on future of Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has revealed he is 'very confident' that Manchester United will allow Dean Henderson to stay with the club until the end of the season.

Henderson is enjoying his second campaign on loan in Sheffield and has played a key role in pushing the Blades towards Europe, with his performances even earning him calls to be made England's first-choice goalkeeper.

However, with no return date yet set in stone following the Premier League's suspension as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Henderson's loan deal will likely expire before the season is finally concluded.

There have reportedly been fears at Bramall Lane that United may not allow Henderson to stay in South Yorkshire past the expiration of his loan deal and until the end of the season as the two clubs are competing for European places.

Such a loss would come as a massive blow to the Blades but M.E.N. Sport understands that United have no plans to recall him and the expectation is he will see out the season with them.

Wilder himself is also convinced that Henderson will stay in Sheffield for the rest of the campaign.

"From Manchester United's point of view, we are coming into that time where they will make decisions in terms of extending or not," Wilder told the Yorkshire Post. "But I am very confident that Manchester United will let Dean stay with us to the end of the season.

"I don't think it is worth asking what Dean wants to do because I think you know the answer and vice-versa. If it was role reversed, I wouldn't think it would be an issue. But I have got to respect that Dean is a Manchester United player and we have got to respect every decision they make.

"If he goes back, he can't play. But I am sure Dean wants to finish off an outstanding season that he has already had playing for Sheffield United."
