How Chris Wilder is planning to finally put Leeds United out of their misery

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has called on the Blades supporters to 'bring their biggest voice' ahead of Saturday’s crucial match against Ipswich Town.

Results over the Easter weekend mean a win for United would almost guarantee promotion to the Premier League ahead of Leeds United.

The Blades are three points ahead of the Whites with two games to play, after back-to-back wins, and boast a far superior goal difference.

With Marcelo Bielsa’s side not in action until Sunday, the task for Wilder’s men is simple as they host rock-bottom Ipswich.

Given what is at stake, the game has unsurprisingly sold out at Bramall Lane. With United set to be backed by a big crowd, Wilder has called on the supporters to see the team over the line.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield ahead of their meeting with the Tractor Boys, he said: “I’m not surprised by the media attention but it means nothing to me, nothing to the players.

"We’ve got a difficult game on Saturday and we all have to play our part. I’ve said all along the players have got to produce another big performance.

“If the supporters ever needed to bring their best voice, their big voices, it’s on Saturday to give the players, as I’ve always said, the environment to go and produce their best performance.

“We all know what is at stake, we all know the numbers, we’re not daft. We all know we have to go and win a game of football and that has been our attitude right the way through. Go and win Saturday’s game.”

Although a win against Paul Lambert’s side would put Sheff Utd on the brink of promotion, their fate wouldn’t be officially sealed until the final day of the season, unless the Whites lose to Aston Villa the following day.

Despite the permutations, the Blades boss, who could taste his third promotion in four years, has ensured his players aren’t getting ahead of themselves.

“Obviously, I can’t police the players, but they’re all sensible boys. We’ve talked about doing things professionally on and off the pitch and they’ve done that in terms of what they say and do in the media," he said.

"I’ve talked about noise and nonsense for a long time so it would be daft of me not to control my players.”

Sheffield United have already blown it once before against Ipswich Town and Stoke City

Whites supporters can watch their Yorkshire rivals' clash against Ipswich on Sky Sports this Saturday, with the game due to kick off at 5.15pm.
