Chris Wilder has message for Jose Mourinho's critics ahead of Sheffield United vs Tottenham

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has delivered a glowing verdict on Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho.

Tottenham and Sheffield United are preparing to go head-to-head on Sunday at Bramall Lane, and the Blades head into this one buoyed by their first league win of the season against Newcastle United following a dire start to the campaign.

Spurs, meanwhile, are in a poor run of form, picking up just one win in six league games, but while questions are being asked of Mourinho's approach to games, Sheffield United boss Wilder is in no doubt about his counterpart's talent.

Asked about Mourinho in his pre-match press conference, Wilder said: "He gets the game and understands the game. The times I have met him, he’s been a fabulous man to talk to.

"I met him in the hotel and you get nervous inside - I am 53 and still nervous talking to Jose - he was complimentary of how we played and hopefully he is complimentary on Sunday.

"I am not embarrassed about my journey - the Premier League is full of characters and brilliant managers and for me, he is top of the tree."

Wilder is also complimentary about Tottenham's efforts this season, while highlighting that late goals have been their weakness this season.

"They are right up there - the manager will be frustrated with late goals that I should imagine looking at the manager’s career, he will be a little bit frustrated with [that]," he added.

"Take those late goals off it would affect their points total and they would be right up there at the top of the league - they have some outstanding players and a manager that is the best in the business."

Heading into the clash, Sheffield United are bottom and nine points off safety having won their first league game last time out, while Tottenham are sixth and six points behind leaders Manchester United.
