Chris Wilder gives Rhian Brewster transfer update ahead of Arsenal's clash with Sheffield United

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has admitted a deal for Rhian Brewster isn't done but talks are at a progressed stage ahead of their clash with Arsenal.

The Gunners host the Blades on Sunday at the Emirates having faced a double-header with Liverpool.

Whilst Mikel Arteta's side were beaten 3-1 in the Premier League, they progressed to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals after beating the Reds on penalties following a 0-0 draw.

Having won their opening two matches of the season against Fulham and West Ham, Arsenal will be hoping to bounce back against Sheffield United.

The Blades are yet to pick up a point this season after losing to Wolves, Aston Villa and Leeds United in their opening three matches.

Wilder's side took four points from Arsenal last term, beating them 1-0 at Bramall Lane before drawing 1-1 away from home.

They will be without Jack O'Connell for the match, who will be sidelined for six months after knee surgery, while they have faced a race against time for Brewster to be involved.

The Liverpool forward is close to signing on a permanent deal after a fee of £23.5million was agreed but he has to be registered by lunchtime to make his debut on Sunday.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Wilder told YorkshireLive: "I can’t confirm that it’s all been done, we have been in negotiations for a while and he has been on our radar.

"Discussions with club and player still ongoing, nothing to announce this minute but we are down the line, will confirm it then, but as we are now, nothing over the line.

"Always trying to bring better players in, looking at what we did last year with chances created and it’s an area we need to be more clinical and need to bring competition into that area.

"Need different options, can’t just go with two up front, on reflection through the season we needed to bring someone in.

"The players are as disappointed as me with the start, they are definitely disappointed they don’t need a lift, but bringing a better player into the group will help."

Meanwhile, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed at his pre-match press conference that nothing can be announced at the moment, adding that his press conference at 12.30pm was perhaps too early.

That would suggest that it is unlikely that Brewster will be involved against Arsenal, with the cut off for registrations being at 12pm on the Friday before the weekend of Premier League games.
