Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has warned on-loan goalkeeper Dean Henderson that he must do better if he wants to succeed at a top club and England .

The Manchester United goalkeeper is spending his second season on loan with the Blades but his error proved costly during the game against Liverpool.

With the score level at 0-0, Gini Wijnaldum fired a volley straight at the shot stopper but the 22-year-old allowed the effort to escape his grasp and cross the line, handing Liverpool all three points.

Speaking after the game, Wilder send a warning to his player, stating that he must improve if he wants to succeed at his parent club and country.

"If he wants to be a professional footballer, these things are going to happen," he said after the defeat.

"But if he wants to play for the top teams, he wants to play for England then he needs to do better, he needs to concentrate more.

"It’s a disappointing day for him. I am not going to put my arms around him, simply he needs to do better."

Henderson was sent a message of support by former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel. The United legend took to social media to help the youngster recover following the blunder.

Schmeichel wrote: "Young man Dean Henderson, clear your head son, it never happened.

"You are doing really well and there's another game around the corner and life goes on #GolieLife."
