Chris Wilder has told his transfer-listed players at Sheffield United to put their careers before their pay packets.
The United boss is annoyed players like striker Leon Clarke, who made 24 appearances during last season’s promotion campaign, are still at Bramall Lane when he has told them to find new clubs.
Jake Wright, Samir Carruthers, Ben Heneghan and Ricky Holmes are also on the transfer list and have no futures with the Blades under Wilder.
Paul Coutts, Martin Cranie and Mark Duffy have left United after Wilder told them they were not part of his first-team plans this season and he is increasingly frustrated that the others are still at Bramall Lane.
The transfer window for League One and Two remains open until September 2 and Wilder has urged them to go.
He says it would be better for their careers to be playing regularly at a lower level, even if it meant taking a pay cut, than sitting in the stands every weekend.
“It depends if they want to go and play football,” said Wilder.
“The lads have got to decide what they want to do. I’d rather be a footballer. I’m not saying they should walk away with nothing, but I’d rather be a footballer and get on with it.
“It’s up to them. I know, if I was a couple of them, that I’d have been at a new club already.
“I won’t name names, but they should maybe think about their career, rather than sticking something in their back pockets.
“It annoys me immensely, because I’ve looked after a couple of them.
“Go and get a club. It should have happened a long time ago.”
