Chris Wilder claims he would have walked off in protest if Oli McBurnie’s 90th-minute equaliser for Sheffield United had been ruled out by VAR.
McBurnie’s strike was checked for handball and Wilder would have been furious if it had been disallowed because the Blades had a goal chalked off in their last game at Tottenham for the most-marginal of offside calls.
“I was going to go in the changing room,” said the Blades boss. “We’ve scored in the last minute against Manchester United , and it’s still Manchester United no matter.
“Then someone says there’s a wait and that the goal might be ruled out.
“We’ve had that a couple of times this season and one at Tottenham where it was ruled out for being offside for a couple of millimetres.
“It’s something that takes away from it a bit. I would have looked quite foolish if the camera had been on me and it got disallowed.”
McBurnie’s goal earned the Blades a draw after United had overturned their 2-0 lead in this incredible game to lead 3-2.
“We won it, lost it and got a result!” said Wilder. “Their first goal was a bit disappointing from our point of view. We lost a little bit of energy and gave the ball away.
“We said to the players you’re not in League One now and if you lose the ball, with those four up, you’ll get punished and we did.
“But full credit to us for getting a result out of the game.
“Whoever we play, we’ll have a go. We came roaring back and got a deserved equaliser.
“We’re a little bit disappointed now that we didn’t win, but I’d say in a couple of hours, with a couple of beers inside us, we can look back at a really good game of football.”
