Chris Wilder blow for Aberdeen as Watford appoint Dons target after Slaven Bilic sacking

Chris Wilder has taken Watford until the end of the season in what will be seen as a blow to Aberdeen.

The Dons are on the look out for a new boss after sacking Jim Goodwin at the end of January following a poor set of results. The Irishman was eventually given his marching orders by chairman Dave Cormack after a 6-0 thumping by Hibernian at Easter Road. Former Aberdeen midfielder Barry Robson has been in interim charge since Goodwin departed and has overseen a change in results for the Pittodrie club.

Record Sport reported earlier this week that Wilder held talks with new chief executive Alan Burrows over the managerial vacancy. It came after he distanced himself from the job in the week after Goodwin lost his job. Watford are on the look out for a new boss after Croatian Slaven Bilić was sacked earlier today and Wilder has agreed to take the reins until the end of the campaign.

Ben Manga, Watford Technical Director, said: "We are all ambitious to succeed this season, so something new is needed quickly while the opportunity of promotion is still real. With the January transfer window over, to change coach is the only option available to re-energise for the final games ahead."
