Chris Whitty Speech today: UK Chief Scientific Adviser to warn nation of 'tough COVID winter ahead'

Professor Chris Whitty is to hold an emergency speech today alongside chief scientific adviser Partick Vallance to warn that the UK is at a 'crucial point' in controlling the second wave.

In the live TV address at 11 am this morning, the UK's Chief Scientific Adviser is expected to warn that we are about to face 'a very challenging winter' reports The Daily Mirror.

According to reports, Professor Whitty will give a stark warning over the latest COVID data which suggests that the UK is headed in 'the wrong direction.'

Nicola Sturgeon is also set to hold a speech today at 12.15pm where she is likely to set out how Scotland plans to tackle the "serious situation" faced by the UK's soaring coronavirus cases.

The First Minister and her cabinet have been very vocal about how they have been spending the weekend deliberating the 'action' they wish to take to prevent the coronavirus from getting out of control this winter.

It is expected that any new lockdown measures will be set out by the First Minister either today or tomorrow and that they are likely to address ways to 'stop households from mixing.'
