Chris Thompson speaks on the Jordan Reed retirement report

Like anyone else paying attention to the team, Washington Redskins running back Chris Thompson saw the report about Jordan Reed and retirement that popped up recently.

Thompson didn’t hold back when asked about such a sensitive subject, according to NBC Sports Washington’s Caroline Brandt.

“It’s a tough situation. I know how J Reed is. I’ve been with him…we got drafted together and I played against him in college so I know how he is about football,” Thompson said. “I know how he feels and he really wants to be out there but, I told him yesterday, I was like, ‘man, you gotta go out there and gotta be smart. You gotta take care of yourself, it’s bigger than this, it’s bigger than just this game.’”

It’s sound advice from Thompson, who has suffered his fair share of injuries over the years too.

Reed is in an interesting spot after a preseason concussion, which was the seventh reported of his career. It sounds like Reed wants to get back and the team hasn’t thrown him on injured reserve, so the team still seems to think it is a possibility.

But Reed is also getting this sort of perspective from his teammates, which makes the situation a mystery for outside onlookers.

All Redskins fans can really do is hope Reed heeds Thompson’s comments and makes the best possible decision.
