Chris Thompson speaks on the Jay Gruden firing

Washington Redskins running back Chris Thompson made some interesting headlines after the team fired head coach Jay Gruden.

In short, Thompson got emotional while talking about the subject.

Now, Thompson has had a chance to give some of his thoughts on the matter, according to NBC Sports Washington’s JP Finlay (h/t NFL.com’s Jelani Scott):

“For me, it’s just, the whole situation is frustrating, being 0-5. I care more about the person than I do the coach. At the end of the day, it’s somebody losing their job, somebody that I care about, somebody that I feel helped give me a big opportunity in this league on top of the Redskins drafting me.”

Thompson spent the majority of his career under Gruden, so the line of thinking here makes plenty of sense. And at 0-5, the season is all but lost anyway, so it’s rather hard to disagree with Thompson’s stance on job security.

But at the same time, Thompson also went on to note that players have liked some of the changes instrumented by interim coach Bill Callahan.

It’s a tough all-around situation but the Redskins have moved forward and Thompson can too after speaking on the matter.
