Chris Thompson’s deal includes a signing bonus of $250K, base salary set at $1.05M

With running back Chris Thompson officially being on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ roster for over a week, his deal has finally been disclosed. As expected, it’s a team-friendly one that will keep him in Jacksonville for a year with a base salary of $1.05 million, a signing bonus of $250K, and a roster bonus of $100K.

The Jags brought in Thompson after not utilizing one of their 12 draft picks on a running back. That could prove to be the right move as Thompson gives the Jags an experienced rusher who worked with Jay Gruden for many years and knows the system quite well.

The seventh-year veteran will enter his career in Jacksonville with 1,194 total rushing yards for five touchdowns. However, he’s expected to be more of a threat in the passing game as that was his greatest attribute with the Redskins, garnering career totals of 1,772 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns through the air.

According to the NFLPA’s public salary cap report (generated daily, per their site), the Jags have over $20.4 million in available cap space after the signing.
