Chris Thompson could act as a secret weapon for the Washington Redskins

The Washington Redskins have been dealing with a lot of injuries so far this season, and while the team has struggled to adjust, there are a few players who have taken advantage of the opportunity.

Running back Chris Thompson is one of the main beneficiaries in Washington.

Though Thompson saw some touches in Week 1 before rookie RB Derrius Guice went down with a knee injury, his workload has increased since. Thompson leads the team with 18 targets this season, and he’s hauled in 12 of those passes. According to Bleacher Report, he’s played 55.28 percent of offensive snaps.

Veteran RB Adrian Peterson is expected to shoulder much of the load on the ground, but Thompson has provided a major boost in the passing game out of the backfield. If Week 2 was any indication of how useful Peterson will be for the Redskins, running behind an offensive line that ranks 29th in the league, per Football Outsiders, then Washington might choose to lean on Thompson and his catching prowess more and more as the season goes on.
