Chris Thompson admits Redskins don’t expect to have Alex Smith back this year

If you were wondering what the mood is like in the Washington locker room when it comes to Alex Smith’s injury timeline, RB Chris Thompson cleared some things up on Tuesday.

“We know and understand that it’s probably not going to happen that we have him this year,” Thompson said in an interview with JP Finlay on Tuesday.

After suffering a compound fracture in his leg during the 2018 season, many believed that Smith would be out for most of the next season, while some questioned whether or not he would ever play football again.

A long road of recovery still lays ahead, but all signs are pointing towards the Redskins sticking with Smith, and hoping that he can return in as good of shape as he left in.

In the mean time, the Redskins still have Colt McCoy under contract, and there’s always a chacne that they take a quarterback in the NFL Draft this year.
