The Chicago Bears have been dealing with a lot over the last week, including a mini COVID-19 outbreak within the team that’s impacted some key players and head coach Matt Nagy.
Nagy tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday morning, and he’s been away from Halas Hall as a result. His status for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers is also in jeopardy.
When Nagy made the announcement Monday, he said special teams coordinator Chris Tabor would lead team meetings to allow defensive coordinator Sean Desai and offensive coordinator Bill Lazor to focus on their respective units.
On Wednesday, Nagy confirmed that, if he’s unable to coach Sunday, that it’ll be Tabor serving as acting head coach in his place.

Nagy is vaccinated, so he would need two negative tests 24 hours apart in order to be cleared to return to the team.
The Bears lead the NFL with players on the reserve/COVID-19 list, which includes outside linebacker Robert Quinn, tight end Jimmy Graham, right tackle Elijah Wilkinson and linebacker Caleb Johnson. Nagy and wide receivers coach Mike Furrey are also on the list. Running back Damien Williams was removed from the list last Saturday.
