Chris Sutton slams Solskjaer for allowing Alexis Sanchez to leave Manchester United

Football pundit Chris Sutton has slammed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for allowing Alexis Sanchez to leave Manchester United and believes the manager has 'cut his nose off to spite his face.'

Sanchez has joined Italian side Inter on loan for the remainder of the season after being deemed surplus to requirements by Solskjaer following a dismal 18-months at Old Trafford.

The Chilean has linked up with former teammate Romelu Lukaku at the San Siro after he was sold on deadline day for £73million, which has left United low on options in attacking areas.

Sutton believes that Solskjaer allowing his attacking numbers to get so low could prove to be a costly mistake.

"United haven’t got the players to get [back into the top four]," the retired striker told the Daily Mail.

"I can’t believe they let Alexis Sanchez go. They had already sold Romelu Lukaku and signed no replacement, so they were already light up front.

"I fear Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has cut his nose off to spite his face. He’s now relying on Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, maybe even 17-year-old Mason Greenwood to do a job up front.

"I’m not so sure Solskjaer will [make it until the end of the season].

"He took over at Old Trafford last season, finishing with one win in their last seven Premier League games. Now their troubles are continuing."

Sanchez has yet to make his debut for Inter after being an unused substitute in Sunday's victory over Cagliari, though Lukaku has gotten off to a great start in Italy.

The Belgian has two goals in two games though, sadly, he suffered racist abuse from Cagliari fans as he took the winning penalty in the 2-1 victory.
