Chris Sutton shuts down Celtic vs Manchester City debate as he scoffs at fan's controversial European Cup claim

What makes a big club these days?

Is it history and prestige? Or simply current standing and money?

These are questions fans will never agree on but Chris Sutton wasn't for entertaining one Manchester City supporter's on-air claim.

The Parkhead legend was left exasperated at the notion the mega-rich Etihad outfit are now a bigger club than Celtic.

He lightheartedly clashed with City fan Buvey on BBC 606, egged on by co-host Robbie Savage.

Supporters were invited on to debate the big questions and things got animated when the subject of Celtic v City went up on the slates.

"Historically, Celtic. But at the moment, Man City," said Buvey.

But Sutton replied: "Come on, who's got the star on their jersey? Celtic are much bigger, of course they are.

"We've had this argument about Celtic and Leicester and it's true.

"They're a bigger club. Man City might have the money, Celtic have the history, Celtic have the European Cup."

The City fan then insisted Celtic's European Cup success back in 1967 is no longer relevant and that Pep Guardiola 's side are a stick-on to win the Champions League at some point.

But Sutton fired back: "It's not relevant now? You wouldn't know, you haven't won it!

"Future European champions, that sums it up, doesn't it?"
