Chris Sutton shoots down madcap Steven Gerrard Rangers exit coup as he rips apart raging 'Klopp Out' Liverpool fan

Former Celtic star Chris Sutton has gone toe-to-toe with an irate Liverpool fan calling for Jurgen Klopp's head in the wake of the nightmare Merseyside derby defeat to Everton.

The wretched 2-0 defeat for the Premier League champions leaves them facing an almighty battle to claim a place in the top four as they watched their rivals win at Anfield for the first time since 1999.

Unsubstantiated rumours were rife last weekend that Klopp was ready to call time on his Liverpool stay but that was later rubbished by the manager himself.

But Liverpool's spectacular fall from grace has some of their followers up in arms and demanding change in a season when they have been robbed of star defensive pair Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.

Kop diehard David is one such supporter and he wants Klopp gone as he called Sutton and Robbie Savage to vent his spleen and issue a fresh call for Steven Gerrard to save the day.

But the former Celtic hero was having none of it when the called claimed Klopp's men could finish in eighth place in the table at the end of the season.

Speaking on BBC 606, Sutton said: "That is absolute nonsense.

"The fact of the matter, Everton are level on points with you, so you are three points off Chelsea in fourth place.

"Jurgen Klopp has won a Champions League, he was won a Premier League, the last two seasons have been so unbelievable the standard.

"I'm not saying it's great if you are a Liverpool fan but surely this guy deserves more time than you want to give him?

David then stated his preferred choice to replace the charismatic German would be the Ibrox boss and that set off a lively debate between the Record Sport pundit and the fed-up Anfield diehard.

The debate in full

David: "They can't get anyone at the moment. I was thinking Gerrard in a couple of years time to take over from Klopp when Klopp's contract ends.

Sutton: 'So have a caretaker in for two years then?

David: "Right, so what we need is Dalglish until we can find...maybe Gerrard will take over in August or September.

Sutton: But you just said a couple of years, Gerrard in a couple of years?

David: 'Well, no, I was thinking Gerrard originally in a couple of years when Klopp's contract comes to an end but I don't think Liverpool can wait two years for Gerrard.

"Jurgen Klopp is taking Liverpool from first to seventh or eighth and that's unheard of - Liverpool should be second and they are not even going to finish in the top four."

"Because all the other clubs are gaining points on Liverpool who are stuck on 40 points and if they won't get past teams like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

"Liverpool will not be able to get to the Final and win the Champions League - their season is a write-off.

Sutton: "Just to clear David, you want Jurgen Klopp gone and Kenny Dalglish to come in as his replacement?

David: "Only until Gerrard takes over."

Sutton: "In two years."

David: "No, no, I think Dalglish should take over for the rest of the season and then ask Steven Gerrard if he wants to take over when Rangers win their Scottish league.

"Then Gerrard can take over next season."
