Chris Sutton's worrying Leeds United relegation call as he backs ex-club Norwich City to survive

Chris Sutton has backed Leeds United to be relegated from the Premier League this season.

The Whites have struggled in the opening 13 matches of the campaign, sitting 17th in the table after winning just twice.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been unable to replicate the performances of last term which earned them a ninth placed finish and several plaudits along the way.

It is in attack where Leeds have seen a particular drop off from the 2020/21 campaign. At this stage last season, they had already scored 22 league goals.

However, this year they have managed just 12, which has been down to a combination of poor finishing and creativity.

And due to this regression, Sutton believes that Leeds will be one of the three clubs that drop down to the Championship and has even backed Norwich City to pip them to survival.

Giving his predictions to Sportsmail, he said: “Former Norwich striker says his old club will survive. Shock horror! But the hiring of Dean Smith gives them such a chance.

“He's an excellent coach who's already extracting good performances. With that in mind, I'll say they can get themselves out of trouble.

“The three clubs who I'll say are going to drop down to the Championship, with apologies, are Leeds, Newcastle and Brentford.

“But it's a very open race right now, both at the top of the Premier League and the bottom. Anything can happen.”
