Chris Sutton's Dom McKay 'difficult time' response as chief executive leaves Parkhead role

Chris Sutton has reacted to Dominic McKay's Celtic departure - wishing the now former chief executive luck in his next role.

McKay left the club after a short stint as CEO this afternoon.

Celtic cited 'personal reasons' for his exit and the former Scottish Rugby chief deleted his Twitter account.

Former Hoops striker Sutton showed his support for the outgoing chief and admitted he took over at a difficult time in the club's history after losing the title to Rangers and struggling to find a replacement for Neil Lennon before Ange Postecoglou took over.

And he posted on social media, insisting he hopes McKay and his family are safe and well with the decision and aftermath.

He said: "Good luck to Dom McKay.

"A difficult time to take over the role and of course there will be much speculation as to why he’s stepped down but the main thing is Dom McKay and his family are ok."

We told earlier how Barry Ferguson reckons McKay was unable to deal with the '24/7' job of working at Celtic.

The Rangers hero said: "It's constant. You are in a bubble, and you've not got the luxuries some people have got.

"That's what it's like in the west of Scotland. I was lucky enough to grow up with it.

"I saw what happened with my brother, I grew up in the west of Scotland. So maybe it's a shock to Dom's system.

"He has been in on a full-time basis now for 10 weeks, and maybe he's thought to himself it's not what I want.

"The limelight is on you. It's constant, you are in the media constantly, you are spoken about constantly.

"I would like to think that over the next week we will get the reasons that he has left."
