Chris Sutton rinses Rangers and claims Celtic boss Neil Lennon will be 'laughing his head off' at rivals

Pundit Chris Sutton has piled in on ropey Rangers and admits he could never have predicted their capitulation in the Premiership title race.

Hamilton's shock 1-0 win at Ibrox has Steven Gerrard 's side 13 points behind Celtic with just nine games to play after Tom Rogic rescued a point for the Hoops at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

The Govan side roared into the winter break on the back of a dominant 2-1 win at Parkhead and trailed the champions by just two points with a game in hand.

But Rangers have been off-form since returning from Dubai and have dropped points in five games with the defeat against Accies the death knell in their domestic season.

And Sutton reckons Celtic manager Neil Lennon will be barely able to contain himself after the Ibrox side's latest shocker despite being surprised by the Irishman's verdict after draw with Livi.

The former Hoops hero, speaking on BT Sport, said:"I didn't agree with the assessment that Celtic were outstanding.

"A point is a good point in terms of them losing at the end but put everything into context Neil Lennon's Celtic have gone 13 points clear of Rangers.

"I thought that was unthinkable. He (Lennon) must be laughing his head off."

Sutton reckons Lennon's glowing review of Celtic's helter-skelter performance against Livi has plenty to do with what is happening at Ibrox.

He added: "I think he's making a conscious effort because Steven Gerrard has come out in recent months and chucked his team under the bus.

"No matter what the result I think Neil Lennon is realising what is going on across the city and saying: 'regardless of the result, I'm going to back my players and keep them onside.'"

And the Hoops boss was full of praise for his side's efforts after mounting a comeback to avoid defeat in West Lothian.

Lennon said: "I thought we were brilliant.

"I think we're very unfortunate not to have the three points. We gave away two sloppy goals, and when you do that you end up chasing the game.

"But second half we were outstanding and the least we deserved out of the game was a point."
