Chris Sutton ridicules Rangers boss Steven Gerrard over Scott Brown accusations

Chris Sutton has fired back at Rangers boss Steven Gerrard over his claims Scott Brown should be punished for provoking his players.

The Celtic skipper was centre stage in Sunday's derby and was involved in three flashpoints with Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Andy Halliday.

Morelos was sent off after half an hour of the match, which Celtic won 2-1, for lashing out at Brown and Kent was lucky to escape without a booking after striking the Hoops skipper in the face after James Forrest's dramatic late winner.

Halliday was shown a second yellow card after the match following a furious bust-up with Brown.

And Gerrard hit out at the 33-year-old afterwards, claiming the Celtic skipper deserved punishment too for provoking his players.

Gerrard said: "You're playing against a player who loves to antagonise. Morelos and Kent are both provoked.

"The guy who antagonised it all from the beginning deserves to be punished as well. When you're provoked, it's only fair that both sides get punished in my view.

But Sutton hit back, saying: "I didn’t realise you could be sent off for provoking... Rangers' lack of indiscipline cost them."

The former Hoops hero also trolled Gerrard over his pre-match "lions' den" comments. The Rangers gaffer had played down the Celtic Park atmosphere saying: "It will be loud but it won't be a lion's den. A lion's den is when four lions jump over a cage and you fear for your life."

But summing up the 90 minutes, Sutton said: "Brilliant game. Kent the outstanding player...Rangers very good second half... ultimately they came up short in the lions den."
