Chris Sutton reckons Steven Gerrard would leave Rangers for Aston Villa if offered the chance.
But not everyone agrees, judging by co-host Robbie Savage's surprised response.
Sutton was speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, discussing the aftermath of Villa 's 4-1 thumping against West Ham.
One frustrated Villa fan called up and suggested it's time for boss Dean Smith to go after their difficult start to the Premier League season.
And when asked who he wanted to replace him, the answer was simple: "Steven Gerrard."
The fan himself seemed unsure whether Gerrard would take the job, and was reluctant to give an answer when asked if Villa were a bigger club than Rangers.
That's when Sutton interjected: "Steven Gerrard would take the Villa job."
Co-host Robbie Savage seemed skeptical as he responded: "Would he?"
But Sutton wasn't budging as he answered: "If he was offered the job, he would."
Gerrard has been reluctant to be drawn into any speculation over his future, dodging various questions when he was asked about the vacant post at Newcastle.
The consistent message from the Liverpool hero is that he is focused on life at Rangers and retaining the Scottish Premiership title.
His team just moved four points clear of rivals Celtic with a thumping 6-1 win over Motherwell. They face Brondby in the Europa League in midweek hoping to make the knockout stages for the third straight season.
Villa's 4-1 defeat to West Ham leaves them 15th in the Premier League table and staring down the barrel of a relegation scrap if their poor form isn't arrested soon.
