Chris Sutton rants about Nottingham Forest players as season gets underway

Chris Sutton has launched a tirade against Nottingham Forest's players as his boyhood club began the season in defeat.

Nottingham-born former Blackburn striker Sutton last night hit out at the sacking of Martin O'Neill, his former manager at Celtic.

Sutton commented on the suggestion players engineered O'Neill's sacking, something he is still seething about.

"You know what, the sacking of Martin O'Neill was a disgrace really," Sutton said on BBC 606, during Forest's 2-1 defeat to West Brom.

"There were rumours that the players had a part in his sacking. If that's true, what has the game come to?

"Where did they finish last season? Ninth or tenth?

"I've never understood players who talk to the chairman and go behind the manager's back.

"They were my team as a boy. European Cup winners, but the club is in a mess.

"Modern football. Martin O'Neill did not get long enough."

Veteran defender Michael Dawson has previously insisted the players gave their all for O'Neill.
