Chris Sutton questions Steve Clarke decision making as Andy Robertson and Scott McKenna calls go under the microscope

Chris Sutton has questioned Steve Clarke 's decision to play Andy Robertson at right-back against Denmark.

And he also wondered why Scott McKenna was picked from the start in Copenhagen.

Scotland were beaten 2-0 against the Danes in a defeat that dealt their World Cup qualification chances a blow.

Denmark were completely in control and appeared to have won the game by half-time, with a number of Clarke's tactical decisions backfiring.

With neither Nathan Patterson or Stephen O'Donnell available, Sutton switched captain Robertson over to the right flank and moved Kieran Tierney out to left wing-back.

It meant neither player occupied their familiar international position and left Scotland looking disjointed.

Sutton was speaking on BBC's 606 football phone in and one caller wanted to discuss Clarke.

And the former Celtic hitman was clear in his questioning that he felt playing Robertson out of position was strange.

He said: "What did you make of some of Steve Clarke's decision-making in the last couple of games? Especially Andy Robertson at right wing-back."

"It's a difficult one when he has Tierney and Robertson."

Another decision Sutton appeared sceptical of was Scott McKenna, who started the game despite a difficult start to the season for Nottingham Forest.

He later added: "Scott McKenna seemed like he was a strange pick for the Denmark game - what did you think?"
