Chris Sutton questions Rangers leadership as he urges Steven Gerrard to make public statement on future

Chris Sutton has urged Steven Gerrard to make a public statement on his Rangers future, as he sees a lack of "leadership" at Ibrox.

Chairman Dave King officially gave up his place on the board last week, with Douglas Park replacing him on an interim basis.

Sutton feels that King's departure could have a knock-on effect, as he was the man who tempted Gerrard north of the border.

With Scottish football shut down due to the coronavirus, the former Celtic striker wants to see some leadership from the Ibrox boss.

Speaking on Scottish Football Extra, Sutton said: "It wasn't a time for Dave King to socially distance himself from the club.

"Rangers Football Club needs leadership at this moment, in these uncertain times.

"And I suppose Dave King leaving begs the question: what about Steven Gerrard's future now as Rangers manager?

"Dave King was the guy who brought Steven Gerrard to the football club and Steven Gerrard trusted Dave King implicitly.

"So maybe it's about time that Steven Gerrard came out and made a statement, just to calm the waters at Rangers at this moment in time."
