Chris Sutton obliterates Celtic chiefs after Champions League doing as legend slams 'this is on the board'

Chris Sutton launched a brutal attack on the Celtic board for destroying their Champions League dream and told chief executive Dominic McKay he owes Ange Postecoglou an apology.

The Record Sport columnist and strike legend blasted the Parkhead hierarchy for leaving the new boss hamstrung in his attempts to reach the lucrative group stage of European football’s top competition.

Sutton claimed Hoops chiefs have paid the heavy price - a £30 million bounty - for failing to be prepared after they crashed to an extra time defeat to Danish side FC Midtjylland in the MCH Arena.

The 48-year-old was raging with his old club as they crashed out in the qualifiers for the fourth successive season.

And Sutton, speaking on Premier Sports, blasted: “ Dominic McKay should be phoning up Ange Postecglou and apologising. This is on the board and not the manager"

“It’s embarrassing and mismanagement. This isn’t on the manager - this is on the board.

“For Celtic to go out of the Champions League at this stage - we all know the reasons for it - the manager has been dealt an awful hand.

“I said it last week and that it would be a miracle if Celtic got through the Champions League group stage.

“Look at his bench tonight and what he had to work with and what he had to throw on. There have been issues that have needed addressing for a long time.

“Every Celtic fan knows they needed a goalkeeper who was up to it. Barkas, Bain and Hazard aren’t up to it - why haven’t Celtic acted?

“Nir Bitton once again playing a Champions League qualifier Why on earth was Kristoffer Ajer sold? The club knew he was going to move on and Dane Murray played well thrown in at the deep end.”
